Skywalk by the Fangyuan Wetland Mangrove Forest Expected to Open Before this Summer Vacation.
The Fangyuan Wetland has the largest wetland intertidal zone in Taiwan with a width of 6 kilometers. It is an important habitat for conservation birds such as the Great Whirlpool and Black-billed Gull. The mangrove forest at the estuary of the Erlin River is mainly composed of sea scallion and Shuibi. It is an important breeding habitat for the heron family. Although the mangroves in this area are not native plants, they have excellent coastal protection after long-term development. The Forestry Bureau has also set up security forests along the dikes to protect the lives and properties of residents. In order to make wise use of mangrove resources, the main contents of this plan are: (1) Partial thinning of mangroves, cleaning up existing tidal ditches, and cleaning up existing waste. (2) Building of ecological observation trails, manatee squares and other facilities, (3) Integration of ecological navigation systems. Among them, the mangrove ecological observation trail has a total length of 1,028 meters, which shuttles between mangroves at a height of 1.8 to 2 meters higher than the intertidal zone, reducing the interference to the organisms in the mudflat. The trail connects the evening viewing platform, the bird watching pavilion and the benthic environment observation platform, and at the end, links up the skywalk to the Fangyuan sea dike. It is the main visiting route for understanding the mangrove, intertidal zone and coastal ecological environment. Tourists can take about 1 hour to complete the whole route.
