Changhua County Mayor Wang Hui-Mei led a delegation to Austria and the Czech Republic for a study tour. On May 11, the delegation visited the Recycling Center Maxglan in Salzburg, Austria. Focusing on household waste management, County Mayor Wang exchanged views with Center Director Wulff-Gegenbaur on policies related to waste reduction, resource recycling, and source-based waste management. Director Wulff-Gegenbaur expressed admiration for Changhua's decisive implementation of garbage bag opening inspections, while County Mayor Wang praised Maxglan's meticulous source management and detailed waste classification system, which has significantly reduced waste volumes. She emphasized her hope of adapting these successful practices to strengthen Changhua's environmental governance and advance the shared goal of sustainable development. The Recycling Center Maxglan is responsible for managing municipal waste in Salzburg, with a strong focus on promoting the circular economy. As resource recovery and alternative energy become increasingly important, the center prioritizes waste sorting and public education. Through continuous communication with residents, it encourages proper waste classification, recycling, and treatment. Salzburg's guiding principle is to make waste management simple, convenient, and user-friendly, thereby safeguarding a sustainable and beautiful environment for future generations. County Mayor Wang noted that the delegation also visited another waste resource recycling center, where recyclable materials are divided into more than 50 categories, making disposal more convenient for residents. She highlighted that many of these practices provide valuable references for Changhua. Moving forward, the county government will apply the successful experiences learned in Austria to further refine local environmental policies and initiatives, while working hand in hand with residents to achieve the vision of sustainable development.
