The 2026 Lukang Dragon Boat Festival Celebration Series – International Dragon Boat Race officially opened on the afternoon of June 19 at the Fulu River. The opening ceremony was presided over by Changhua County Mayor Wang Hui-Mei. Taichung Deputy Mayor Cheng Chao-Hsin and Nantou County Deputy Secretary-General Chien Yu-Min not only attended the ceremony but also participated in the race in support of the event. County Mayor Wang noted that this year marks the 49th anniversary of the Lukang Dragon Boat Festival. A record-breaking 173 teams have registered for the race, setting a new milestone. Among them, 17 international teams representing 20 countries are competing, showcasing Changhua's diversity and hospitality while allowing the world to witness the county's passion and vitality. The dragon boat races will take place from June 19 to 21, with competitions held daily from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the Fulu River. The public is warmly invited to take advantage of the Dragon Boat Festival long weekend to visit Lukang and experience this one-of-a-kind celebration. This year's event features teams representing 20 countries. Special thanks are extended to partner local governments, including Taichung City and Nantou County, for their enthusiastic participation, which has added further excitement to the races. Appreciation is also extended to the faculty and students of Lu Jiang International School for providing English interpretation services for the international division, ensuring smooth communication and creating a welcoming environment for participants from around the world.
